The meeting started at 6:00 with Melinda Petersen’s famous chili, BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and a drink for only $5 !! Come next month and bring a friend!
Meeting called to order at 7:03 PM by President Bill Dewey with Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 24 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”. Guests included Urban Moore and Shelly and Darrin Humble. Welcome to all!!
Secretary Stout noted that yearly dues of $25 are due now. Please see him after the meeting or you can send them in by mail: EAA Chapter 31, 86277 Panorama Rd., Springfield, OR 97478
President Bill commented that one of the 2 project we have been working on has been completed, thanks to Dave Petersen, and it was to 1) Pressure Wash the building (he also fixed the outside light). The second is to 2) replace the Chapter 31 sign on the building. He has spoken to Shelly and she is waiting on a written plan to take to the city for approval. Rusty now has the file that will allow his sign maker the ability to make a sign when we receive approval.
Pres. Bill also said that we will have an answer by the next meeting from the Creswell Planning Commission regarding the memorial park.
Urban Moore then spoke about the controversy regarding his operation and the City of Creswell. He brought a aerial photo of the airport and explained how and why the drop zone is where it is, and why that is safe. He also suggested that the City of Creswell turn the airport into a Port Authority or Commission that would run the airport.
Shelly Humble then spoke about why the City of Creswell needs the revenue from the airport to increase (to mitigate the losses) and what historically led to this situation.
Rick Friberg then spoke about the possibility of a fly-in event in Creswell set for August 18th. He expects that there will be a fly market (with a swap meet with $20-$25 tables), flying contests, model airplane flying, antique cars, possibly the National Guard flying by or displaying, parking and concessions. He asks anyone who has an interest to show up at 3:30? At the clubhouse in Creswell for further planning sessions. They have set a goal of $40,000 to be able to help the City eliminate their losses at the airport.
The next breakfast is on May 19th. Also the next YE event is set for September 8th. President Bill said that EAA national is reluctant to help the Scouts with a separate merit badge event, but would like us to tie it into the YE event in September.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:33 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout
