Special Meeting Sat July 1st

This Saturday, July 1st, we will have an extra 9:00 AM breakfast meeting to do the following:

  1. Clean the hangar (it needs it). No major cleaning since we cleared out the sawdust from the Kitchen storage closet completion. We want it to look clean & spiffy for the Young Eagles on the 4th of July and also for our breakfast and special event on the 15th when we get to honor Bill Dewey.  He will receive the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award presented by the FAA right after our breakfast on the 15th. Congratulations Bill!  Not just anyone can receive this honor.  You have to have 50 years of flying without any blemish on your record.
  2. We will also have an organizational meeting with things that need to be done before Young Eagles on the 4th.  This will include erecting the 2 canopies (or getting ready to do so early on the 4th).  Providing pilot resources on the 4th.  Designating staging areas,  Parking, Food Vendor truck, and a whole lot more.  We have 3 pilots coming down from Albany,  3 (or more) from Eugene 1457,  Plus maybe some from Roseburg.
  3. We will take a break from cleaning to do the Young Eagle items.  Please bring cleaning gear, shop vacs, glass cleaner stuff.  There’s a buildup of dust bunnies, cobwebs, and general crud that we need to get rid of.  If we all pitch in and provide collective wisdom and elbow grease it shouldn’t take long.
  4. SO – “free” breakfast for being on the cleaning detail – or – if you want to be magnanimous, put in your $5.00 bucks as usual.  – President John.
  5. NOTE:  No “regular” meeting on Wednesday the 5th.

Meeting Minutes from the 6/7/2017 meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, June 7th, 2017

The dinner portion of the meeting started at 5:55 PM with our wonderful hosts Virgil and Bridget Pratt. We had pulled pork, coleslaw and apple butter bars, brownies and a drink for only $5? Doesn’t get any better than that! Hopefully they will return again next month with another wonderful menu!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:58 PM. President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was then called to order. There were 18 members and guests in attendance. Past member Richard Letsom’s son was a guest.

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, June 17th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Thanks in advance for all the guys who show up and cook the meal!

President John spoke about the need for organization on the upcoming YE flying this July 4th. He has special T shirts for everyone to wear- just $8. He presented a slide show that broke down all the jobs for this event, and asked for volunteers for each position. Not sure he got all he needed so please come to breakfast to finalize the program. He will be calling folks to ask them to volunteer in the near future.

He also showed slides of his trip on the EAA’s B-17 when it came to town. A great trip that I am sure we all wish we could have made with him.

Airport Manager Shelly Humble then gave a nice update about all the happenings at the Creswell Airport. She noted that the new reader board sign ($22,500) is now working and visible from I-5. She is working on an advertising policy so that she can begin using that capability. She is trying to get a bigger flag for the airport (6×10’). Charter Spectrum is expected to finish trenching in new DSL/Phone lines and we should be able to use the airports WiFi connection soon.

She then reported on the just completed Airport Vision Committee report. During the last 6 months about 17 people in the community (users, residents, staff etc.) met under Dave Weinkaufs direction to come up with a vision of how the airport can look in the near, 5year and 10 year future. These findings will be presented to the Airport Commission and then the City Council for consideration and action.

Shelly turned to the upcoming YE event, and said that she is hoping to get a $500 sponsorship from the fuel company as we have had in the past. She also has 200 balsa wood airplanes to give out during the event.

She mentioned that Jim Orglioso has been trying to start a (for credit) Tech Program at the local High School. This program would allow the young men and women to build an airplane (RV-12??) and consider careers in aviation Tech or flying.

Tom Cunningham mentioned that the Oregon Aviation Historical Society will be having their annual Wings and Wheels event on the 24th of June.

President John then began the Chapter Video, which featured oil filter inspection techniques.

There being no other business, President John then adjourned at 8:28 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
