Meeting Minutes from the 2/7/2024 meeting
Meeting Minutes from the 2/7/2024 meeting.
President Eric Farry and Vice President Gary Ludeke along with Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout as officers were present when the Meeting started at 7:03 PM at the clubhouse in Creswell. There were 13 Members and one guest in attendance. Our guest was our own airport manager, Shelly Humble. Welcome!!
Bill Dewey with several helpers prepared dinner, which consisted of Lasagna, French Bread, salads, Chips, Cookies, and a drink- for $8.00. Thats a bargain!!Thanks guys!
President Eric Farry called the meeting to order. He asked Shelly Humble to give her report on the Creswell Airport.
She spoke about the Ice Storm damage that they are continuing to deal with. Generators came on as planned and the airport was one of the few sites in Creswell that had power. They did run though about 350 gallons of Diesel. AWOS did crash during the storm but is up and running now.
Some folks gave her a hard time about not using the airport as a warming shelter, which she had to remind them that it was in no way usable for that at this time. She also noted the new Web Site that is about to go live. Also, the FAA has given a notice of “No Deficiencies” for the airport upgrading.
She is working to complete 5 CORE grants which include EOC Operations Center, two security gates, other gates and runway lights and tree removal on the end of 34. She is also working on an ARPA grant for the new wastewater treatment plant and was hoping to break ground this spring on the new north taxiways. As she mentioned before, there needs to be an FAA Approved Site evaluation (environmental study) done on potential Salmon impacts of these taxiways. She has received approval for the grant for resiliency with 2 lighted crosses, 4 barricades, 2 balloon lights, and an auto keypad for the gates. Water and Sewer for the North Hangars are due to be connected soon.
Remember our next monthly breakfast will (as always) be on the 3rd Saturday of the month. We need members to help make the fixings. Walt Weischedel is bringing eggs. The next breakfast will be on February 17th, 2024, at the clubhouse starting at 9:00. Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes and Juice or Coffee for $8- a bargain!! See you there!
The checkbook balance at the beginning of the month is $1510.72.
Gary Ludeke was then asked to take the floor and discuss the results of the “Build and Fly” RC model build that the club purchased early last year. He and Pat Dodson along with members of the South Lane RC Model club hosted 9 students from Creswell High School, who met for the first time on January 10th from 2:00 to 5:00 at the clubhouse. Much was learned and much was taught during this time. The Later January meeting was cancelled due to no power at the clubhouse, but subsequent Wednesday sessions have been held. They plan to begin work on the fuselage during the next session.
Bill Dewey then spoke about the brick project. The original plan was to replace the bricks that were in the picnic area with blank bricks and move the engraved bricks to the flagpole area. He will ask for approval from Shelly Humble on this project, along with a weather window to make a final decision on the location and to begin replacement of these bricks. Thanks Bill!
Secretary Stout then noted that Dues are Due from everyone for 2024 ($25). If you are unable to attend a meeting to give him the dues, please mail them to: EAA Chapter 31, 86277 Panorama Rd., Springfield, OR 97478
Pat Dodson then rose to speak about the problems he has been having with his Hummel Bird project. The spark plug spark seems to be intermittent, and he is not sure how to fix this issue. Dave Eason related that several A+P businesses have a pressure spark plug tester with bead blaster. Pat is going to find one of these and try to determine why the sparks are failing.
There being no other business the meeting was adjourned by President Farry at 8:11PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
