Meeting minutes from the 5/1/2013 meeting

The meeting started at 6:00 (Happily with Melinda Petersen’s famous chili and a nice lemon cake), BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, and a drink for $5!! Come next month and bring a friend!

Business meeting called to order at 7:01 PM by President Bill Dewey, with Sec./Tres. Randy  Stout also present.

The 20 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What
exciting thing happened this last month”. Guests included Eugene 1457 Chapter member John Stahr (who brought posters to give away), Jerry Krauss, a guest of Gary Ludeke’s and owner of a Kolb Firestart (see below) and Dave Eason’s neighbor, Dale Nygren.  Jim Beale noted that he now has 80 hours on his new RV.

John Stahr mentioned that Aluminum Overcast, EAA’s B-17 will be at the Eugene airport on 5/16-17, and they could use some volunteers to help with that and with signing up YE’s during the stay. He also noted that there will be an open house at the Eugene airport on June 8th, which will include a YE event.

It was noted that Roseburg airport will have their “Wings and Wheels” event on July 6th from 9-5

Gary Ludeke reported that the Kolb Firestar project he has been working on is now licensed and has fast taxied and is ready for flight tomorrow. Tom Cunningham, who also has a Kolb, is also newly licensed and ready for flight. They should have had them in the air by the time these minutes are read.

In addition, Alan Weider has his new RV-9 licensed and ready for first flight. Our Chapter is getting them in the air!!

The Creswell Air Fair will be on August 9-10-11 this year, with the big day Saturday the 10th. Put this on your calendar! (Mine has my son getting married in Seattle that weekend!!) EAA Chapter 31 will be doing the breakfasts and lunches as usual. It was noted that the flour bombing and spot landing contests need to be separate from the YE flights so that pilots can participate in both. Also noted was the Fly-Market needs to be much better advertised and located. Meetings will begin this next week (Monday?)

President Bill Dewey then spoke about the memorial area. He, along with Rusty Bartel, Dave Eason, Dave Heisley and Alan Weider have finished the retaining wall and much of the brick walkway. They were far enough along to move the Memorial Rock (that has been at the EAA clubhouse this last few years) and set it in a nice area. Landscaping will begin immediately, and Bill is working on the Propeller Monument to be erected within a few months. Phase 2 will include a flagpole and an engraved brick program that will allow anyone to have a place to remember their loved one. This looks like it will become a nice focal place for the airport and a great area to have memorial services for our flying friends as the go west. Good work to all the folks who helped make this a reality.

Dave Petersen reminded the group of the OPA convention in Albany this August 24th.

Chapter 902 (Mulino) asked if our group would transfer our YE credits to them to help send one of their kids to the Air Academy. A show of hands indicated that no one objected.

Next Chapter 31 breakfast will be May 18th. More Air Fair info will be available at that time.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout
Secretary/ Treasurer
