Meeting Minutes from the 5/3/2017 meeting
EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, May 3rd, 2017
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM with our wonderful hosts Virgil and Bridget Pratt. We had Spaghetti, French bread, Salad and 2 kinds of brownies and a drink for only $5? Doesn’t get any better than that! Hopefully they will return again next month with another wonderful menu!
The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:58 PM. President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was then called to order. There were 18 members and guests in attendance. Long-time member Ben Hallert put in a cameo appearance. Great to see him again!!
Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, May 20th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Thanks in advance for all the guys who show up and cook the meal!
Bill Dewey spoke about the continuing formation of a flying club (outside of Chapter 31) with Rusty Bartel’s C-150 as the airplane. He has been fixing it and getting it ready (put in a new push button starter etc.) He said that Gary Ludeke is working on the organizational aspects of the group.
Jim Orgliasso then noted that the Angel Flight folks will be using the clubhouse on May 13th for their event, with around 25 people expected.
President John spoke about the need for organization on the upcoming YE flying this July 4th. He would like to see twice the number of YE’s flown, and thinks we can do it if we have enough volunteers to allow the pilots to stay in or near their aircraft and sign the certificate. We will have several more discussion of work flow before the next event.
He then spoke about his experience helping to marshal people when the EAA’s B-17 came to town. He was able to take the ferry flight up to Washington, so had a great time roaming around every nook and cranny in the old bird. It pays to volunteer sometimes!!
John then ran a special slide show he had made up, called “Identify the Airport”. Unfortunately, he left the key behind so we could only guess. He then ran the Chapter Video which was, as always, informative and entertaining.
President John also noted that Gary Ludeke was ill so hopefully next month we will have a presentation on the new Pilot Certificate Standards, and how they affect every one of us.
Secretary Stout then spoke about his personal Basic Med adventures, and how the rules have been tightened about special issuances and how they affect the procedures. Stay tuned for more adventures!
There being no other business, President John then adjourned at 8:18 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
