Meeting Minutes from the April 6th, 2016 Meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, April 6th, 2016
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by Virgil and Bridget Pratt. There were Costco Hot Dogs, great hamburgers, cookies, chips and a drink for only $5. Don’t miss her next great meal!!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:50 PM (John was ahead again!) President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 26 members and guests in attendance. President John asked anyone in attendance who wanted an EAA calendar to come up to him after the meeting. He had one left.

Tom Cunningham rose to ask the group if we could please purchase some more griddles for the breakfast. He brought in a coupon from Bi-Mart for a nice griddle at a very good price. He then moved that the group purchase 3 of them, this motion being 2nded by Gary Ludeke and voted on. It passed unanimously.

President John Kuehl then discussed the painting of a compass rose down by the FBO. It appears that this cannot occur unless we enlist a Surveyor to mark out the radials accurately. He will be looking into getting this accomplished but at this time the project is shelved.

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, April 16th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Our volunteers for this breakfast are (hopefully) the same group as last time Tom, Bill, Rod and John, who will coordinate getting the breakfast ready to serve. Thanks in advance guys!

President John then presented a nice slide show that documented the great work that many members of the club did to build, paint, stain and shelve our new supply cabinet. The work is top notch and really needed. I hope not to leave anyone out of the “Thanks” but thanks to Bill Dewey, Rod Johnson, John Kuehl and Walt Weischedel. It looks great!!

At the last meeting, Pres. John presented the group with a box full of stickers to be applied to your old Sport Aviation magazines and then distributed throughout the community. These stickers tell the reader to visit Chapter 31 at their next meeting, and speak about all the fun things that occur there. Secretary Stout noted that he “found” one of these magazines at Don’s Barbershop and Bill Dewey raised his hands as the guilty party. Good work guys!!

Walt Weischedel and Alan Weider have replaced the 2nd toilet with a twin to the 1st that was replaced last year. Thanks Walt and Alan!

Gary Ludeke then suggested that if we decide to have a YE event during the 4th of July Creswell Parade, we contact Don Amberg at the Chamber of Commerce and notify them of this decision. It is strongly suggested that everyone get online and check out the YE certification process so that you can participate in this or future YE events. They have made it much easier and less intrusive to fill out the forms.

There being no other business, the meeting was turned over to Curt Cowley from the FAA. He is the FAST Team manager from Hillsboro. He gave a brief history of his flying/fixing career in the military and civilian, with an emphasis on Helicopters. He went on to discussed accidents and their prevention, and then, to most everyone’s surprise, outlined the new FAA enforcement policy. He said that it is now their position that most non-egregious violations would be best handled with education and instruction rather than suspensions and penalties. That includes inadvertent TFR violations and other violations that were not intended. A very interesting guy and a great presentation. Thanks!!

President Kuehl then showed the EAA National Monthly Chapter Video Magazine. As always, this was informative and helpful.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:15 PM
Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer

Not ANOTHER work party

Not ANOTHER work party!

Yup. Tomorrow afternoon 1:00 PM April 1st we’re gonna tackle the OUTSIDE of the club house.

We have gobs of moss on the runway side patio that need to be pressure washed.
I will bring a pressure washer and some hose but we could use a 2nd pressure washer (plus more hose) and a “wye” adapter because I think we only have one hose bib – the one inside by the small bathroom.
We’ll also need some rakes to replace any gravel dislodged by the pressure washing.

Hope to see you there.
(this is NOT an April fools joke – we’re really doing this)

GOOD NEWS BAD NEWS

GOOD NEWS BAD NEWS

SATURDAY BREAKFAST 3/19/2106

The GOOD NEWS is we will have completed our new Pantry/Linen Closet/Storage Locker/Gisintuit Room by this Saturday’s Breakfast 3/19/2016. 9:00 AM. This facility will have it’s “shake down cruise”.
Like any storage space it’s already almost too small. All the non perishables are on the shelves and we even have a coat hook for the EAA aprons.

The BAD NEWS is we generated a ton of sawdust. Daily floor sweepings would more than fill a 5 gallon pail but we still have dust EVERYWHERE. It was pretty much unavoidable.

SO —– We are having a volunteer “all hands on deck” SPRING CLEANING FRIDAY 3/18/2016 begining 9:00 AM or whenever you can show up. Bring shop vacs, upright beaters, dust cloths, step ladders, cleaning goodies etc. Behind every couch, refrigerator, and book shelf are mouse droppings and cobwebs so it’s time to do this. Yours truly has a meeting with a contractor and I won’t be able to show up till mid afternoon but just go ahead and get started. If we have lots of people it won’t take long. Every nook and cranny, from early dusting till final floor moping. See you there. Come and check out the Gisintuit room.

EAA 31 President John.

Meeting Minutes from the 3/2/2016 meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, March 2nd, 2016
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by Virgil and Bridget Pratt. There were Pulled Pork sandwiches, salad, Bridget’s homemade brownies and a drink for only $5. Don’t miss her next great meal!!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:50 PM (John was never one to be late!) President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 21 members and guests in attendance. President John asked anyone in attendance who wanted an EAA calendar to come up to him after the meeting and buy one at any “fair” price.

He then asked everyone to introduce themselves and their project (if they have one). Darrell Durosette spoke about his purchase of a Luscombe that he will be flying back from New York this spring!

President John Kuehl started the entertainment portion of the program with a nice picture presentation of his work on his Pro Tek PT-2. He showed how he made the ribs and then built a wing. Later in the meeting he showed the jig he made to make the crimps in the ribs so that it looked professional and was cheap! Thanks John!

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, March 19th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Our volunteers for this breakfast are Tom, Bill, Rod and John , who will coordinate getting the breakfast ready to serve. Thanks guys!

President John then spoke about the club needing a quartermaster to keep stock on all the food we use during our dinners and breakfasts. Gary Ludeke volunteered to head up this important position. Thanks! John also asked for volunteers to help him build a storage cabinet for all of our non-perishable supplies. Several people raised their hands, so it looks like this project is off and running.

He then presented the group with a box full of stickers to be applied to your old Sport Aviation magazines and then distributed throughout the community. These stickers tell the reader to visit Chapter 31 at their next meeting, and speak about all the fun things that occur there. A great idea revisited again. Most everyone picked up a sheet or two before they left.

It was noted by someone in the group that Van’s is having a Safety Seminar up in Aurora on March 12th. Suggestions and demonstrations on how to keep flying safely in Experimental aircraft.

Speaking of Vans, the RV-3 project that the chapter is working on has begun to slow to a crawl. Gary Ludeke is hoping to build up support again from the builders in the group. Look for some activity to take place later this month.

Walt Weischedel suggested that we replace the 2nd toilet with a twin to the 1st that was replaced last year. Most everyone agreed, so he will pick one up at Costco and install it. Thanks Walt! Walt also mentioned that Safeway had a great coupon for bacon and $10 off $50 that we could take advantage of when we buy our breakfast supplies.

John noted that we would be hosting Curt Conley from the FAA at our next meeting. Curt is a pilots-pilot and flew a bunch of exotic metal while in the military. He has seen Curt’s presentation, and thinks it would be both fun and informative. He also mentioned that EAA National says we have $380 in Young Eagle script that we can donate to a worthy YE camper. If anyone knows of such an individual, please present their name to John or Randy and we will contact them.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 7:50 PM
respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
