CHAPTER 31 MEETING AND BBQ – JANUARY 6, 2016
Our first meeting of the new year will be held this coming Wednesday with our BBQ at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. I hope we can start the year off right with great attendance and participation! We will induct our new President, John Kuehl. We need to have elections for Vice-president, and for Secretary-Treasurer. We need to get back on track with the RV-3 restoration project to turn the airplane over to the OAHS for a mid to late-Spring ceremony at the museum in Cottage Grove. At the Airport Commission meeting last Wednesday I promoted the expansion of the Young Eagles Day event on July 4th instead of having a separate “Airport Days” event that was being discussed. The extra activities (such as a fly-in and public open house) will be under the direction of the Creswell Chamber of Commerce but we will be expected to help out with details. Several people are receiving awards for service to Chapter 31. In addition to the awards presented at the Christmas Party, I request the following persons make a special attempt to attend the meeting to receive their awards in person. They are:
RANDY STOUT, JIM BEAL, TOM CUNNINGHAM, DAVE EASON, LARRY DAVIS, RAY MORSE, KEN SCHMITT, WALT WEISCHEDEL, ROGER WELSH, AND ALAN WIEDER.
The program for the evening will be done by yours truly. I have pictures and stories related to the three airplane museums I visited while touring in New South Wales, Australia in November. I was able to get to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) museum at Parkes, the Warbird Museum in Temora, and the HARS Museum at Albion Park. Australia, and particularly, New South Wales, has a very interesting aviation history that I hope you’ll find interesting. We should also have time to watch the January EAA Chapter Video.
Please try to make the meeting and BBQ and help give our incoming president a warm welcome!

Notice of NO BREAKFAST this coming Saturday
I believe that we agreed that we would not have a breakfast on the 19th because of the proximity to the Christmas holidays and the fact that we had a Christmas party on the 5th. Unless you hear otherwise, assume there is NO BREAKFAST. The Christmas party went well and was a lot of fun. Thanks again to Bridgett and Virgil Pratt for providing a great dinner entree and for all those who brought side dishes! Thanks to our Vice-president (soon to be President) John Kuehl for serving as Master of Ceremony for the Gift Exchange and as Auctioneer for the Christmas tree ornament sale! A Chapter Service Awards was presented to John Kuehl for serving as Vice-president. A new award, the “WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITH OUT YOU AWARD,” was presented to Alan Wieder for his work on the RV-3 Restoration Team as well as for him efforts in installing our new commode. This award was was also presented to Bridget and Virgil Pratt for there dedication to preparing our dinners and breakfasts, and a separate award was presented to Virgil for his work on the RV-3 Restoration Tea. There are a number of additional awards to be handed out at the January meeting so please try to be there and kick off the new year right! For now, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Greetings from New South Wales!
G’day to all! Sandy and I are leaving Parkes, NSW this morning for Temora and a, supposedly, world class warbird musem. Our flight to Auckland was good, our cruise from Auckland to Sydney was great, and our roadtrip so far (from Sydney to Parkes to Forbes to Parkes) has been great. We’re flying back from Sydney on December 1 so I should be at the meeting on Wednesday. The plan, as I remember it, is to use that meeting time to get the clubhouse in shape for the Christmas party. I hope all is going well in getting that event organized. I didn’t see a post for this month’s breakfast so I hope you had one and had a good turnout. See you in December.

Minutes from 11/4/2015 Meeting
EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, November 4th, 2015
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by the wonderful Virgil and Bridget Pratt. There was angel hair spaghetti with meat sauce, French bread, salad and Bridget’s wonderful brownies and a drink for only $5. She is such a great cook; don’t miss the next meeting (she promised to cook the main courses for the Christmas dinner!!)
The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President Gary Ludeke, with Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout also present. There were 17 members and guests in attendance.
The meeting as normal started with the pledge of allegiance, followed by a Creswell Chronical article showing our own Jim Beale with a paint stripping machine working on the Creswell runway. He explained that several of our guys (Bill Dewey, Jim Beale, Gary Ludeke, Tom Cunningham and Charlie Walker) helped with the stripping and were much appreciated by Shelly Humble.
President Gary noted that the water is off due to a coliform finding on a recent sample taken. Daves’ widow has been kind enough to allow us to continue with the water, and it is her wishes that the new owners do likewise. We will approach them with a plate of brownies and a smile and hope that they will be as neighborly as Dave. (P.S. The water has tested out Good, so it is back on for the Christmas dinner and all future events!!)
Gary noted that the club can order EAA Calendars, if we have the demand for at least 10 of them. A call for hands did not find such demand in attendance. We will try to assess interest with an email invitation to order if desired.
President Gary then spoke about the RV-3 project. Dave Eason is done with the engine mount (he found a bar stool that fit almost perfectly!) The project is moving along well, and Gary contacted Van’s for some help on the upcoming paint job. The response from Scott Reson was very good, with their help assured. We now need to determine where the plane will be painted, with Rusty Bartel, John Stahr and Kyle (in Steve Wolf’s old hangar) as possibilities. The final plan is make a presentation of the aircraft at the Oregon Aviation Historical Society with Van in attendance this summer.
Bill Dewey purchased a flag pole, and installed it (with lights) to fly all day and night. He will landscape the area with rocks (per his plan). He was thanked by all for making such a nice addition to the Honor Garden area. Bill also manned a booth at a Girl Scout event, hoping to interest them in EAA and the YE program. Alan Weider is coordinating with him to get his 10 YE’s this year. Thanks Bill and Alan!!
Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, November 21st. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Bridget Pratt said that she would not be there, so she asked again for volunteers. Gary, Tom, Bill and Alan will coordinate getting the breakfast going. Thanks to everyone who makes this special time a priority.
Secretary Stout then noted that we still need nominations for Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. He suggested that any who would be willing to serve in this capacity (and as President in 2 years as is our custom), please make this known to him or another officer of the club. If you are going to nominate someone else, please ask them first if they would accept, and if so, feel free to bring their name forward at the next meeting. We will discuss the nominations in December, and (if any are found) a vote will be taken then.
The first duty of the incoming President (John Kuehl) will be to co-ordinate the Christmas party with Chapter 1457. To that end, it has been decided that we will have a joint Chapter 31 and 1457 party at the Creswell Clubhouse on December 5th at 6:00 for a social hour and 7:00 for the meal. The meal will consist of Prime Rib and Chicken, which will be provided for by the 2 Chapters, and the balance to be Pot Luck from the members. Names starting from A-H will bring a Side dish, I-P will bring a salad and Q-Z will bring a dessert. Yes, you can jump lists if you make a certain great dish and it doesn’t fit you name. Cost will be $5 (to defray the main dish cost), and a Pot Luck item. If you are batching it and can’t bring an item, just add another $5 to the pot. (And don’t everyone batch it!!) See you there!!
It was noted by Frenchy that the Oregon Air and Space Museum at the Eugene airport will be having a big band fund raiser on 11/8 at 4:00PM. (Sorry these minutes came after the event!)
There being no other business, Gary presented the EAA National chapter newsletter video that had a nice segment on Glider acrobatics.
The meeting was then adjourned at 8:05?? Pm (I had to leave before the video)
respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout
Secretary/Treasurer
