John Stahr, the President of Chapter 1457 in Eugene will let John Kuehl know if they want the clubhouse for the party, of if they are going to hold it in his shop. Both chapters trade off hosting duties, and it is their year.

Doug Kindred noted that the memorial service for past member Leonard Tarantola will be at the Unity of the Valley Church at 39th and Hilyard St.at 3:00 on Sunday the 16th.

leonards-obit

VP Johnson then gave a quick report on the recent Reno Air Races. Only one accident with no big injuries. 12 unlimited planes, 2 P-51’s but not Rare Bear. Voodoo 1 hit 489 MPH. The T-6’s were regularly clocked at 250+ MPH. A lot of International Formula 1’s.

Past President Gary Ludeke gave a quick report on 1) the RV-3 project (keeps getting stalled but he will be working on it this month), 2) Oregon Air Tour and 3) the beginning of the flying club (outside of EAA Chapter 31’s activities). The flying club is in the initial assessment of interest mode. Once a number of potential members have been identified, a consensus on which aircraft to buy will be made. Rusty Bartel has offered his C-150 as a potential Club Aircraft. Both Gary and Bill Dewey will sparkplug this effort, with Gary giving instruction and BFR’s and Bill turning wrenches with his A/P license. Thanks Guys!!

President John announced that next meeting we will be hosting the President of Dynon Avionics who will bring with him a good assortment of their offerings. Don’t miss this!!

He also thanked Alan Weider for installing the 2 new hybrid toilets that Walt Weischedel bought for us from Costco. Thanks to the both of them!

There being no other business, President John invited Alan Weider to come up and give his presentation on Automated Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast. This was a very informative talk with many graphics that helped the group understand what it is, who needs it, what happens if you don’t have it in 2020, what it costs, who sells it and for what price, and should I get the IN equipment in my aircraft. He showed a nice Raspberry PI based IN system he bought on line from Amazon through www.stratux.me for $165. He also noted that 95% of the USA airspace is outside of the class where you will need ADS-B equipment to operate, and that includes EUG, SLE, MFD. Thanks Alan again for this very complete presentation!

President John then ran the Chapter Video from EAA National.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:25 PM

Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, October 5th, 2016 The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by Virgil and Bridget Pratt.
