A steel building manufacturer has been contacted and will be asked to help with plans that could be accepted by the Creswell Airport Commission.

He also noted that the Boy Scouts are considering an aviation Merit Badge that the chapter could help with. He will let us know how this progresses.

Minutes from 6/1/2011 Meeting

Meeting Notes for June 1st, 2011
The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot
dogs, sadly without Melinda’s famous chili! Also salad and chips and
some good cookies. Still the best bargain in the area for $4
Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by President Bill Dewey with
Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 15 members and guests in
attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting
thing happened this last month”. We had Brent Hennings as a guest at
the meeting.
Tom Cunningham sent around a picture of a train from Antelope Valley
that makes a complete circle during its run up a hill. He also
reported that the Antelope Valley airshow was a bit of a bust. The
winds never went below 30 and the temperature never went over 50.

Gary Ludeke reported that he is painting the rotating beacon tower at
the Oregon Aviation Historical Society at Cottage Grove. The last time
it was painted, it was lying down. Not so much this time!

The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 18th of June.

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  President Bill has
given up on working his way through the school of architecture to get
a student to help with the design. He and his lovely wife Dee have
gone to the library and gotten plans that they hope to modify and
submit to get the ball rolling. He will submit the plans to Shelly who
will submit them to the city and get approval from the building dept.
He has budgeted between $2000-4000 for the cost. Secretary Stout
suggested that OAHS Board member Doug Kindred ask them (OAHS) if they
would be interested in participating with us in order to use their 501
C-3 non-profit status to  help with donations. He will report back
next month.

Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory is also hoping to restore the 1st
airplane shot by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, an Interstate Cadet.
The owner is confirming identity at this time.

Rusty Bartel then offered up his list of available tools to loan and
passed it around for further inclusions.

Minutes from 5/4/2011 Meeting

Meeting Notes for May 4th, 2011

The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, with Melinda’s famous chili! (Also salad and chips and some good cookies). Still the best bargain in the area for $3

Meeting called to order at 7:06 PM by President Bill Dewey with Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 15 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”. 2 of these folks signed up as new members. They were Brad Chapman (who had a Thorpe T-18 and lived up at Chehalem Airpart until moving to Drain) and John Wagner. Welcome to both of them!

Rusty Bartel brought in his friend Tanner Adams (back from soldering in Afghanistan) who is interested in flying and airplanes. He drove an M1A1 tank, so should be able to handle a plane. He also asked anyone who wants a good worker to contact him for work opportunities at tanneradams1988@yahoo.com

John Stahr from chapter 1457 was thanked in absence for delivering two of the signs (which says “Don’t drive on the grass”) Dave Heisley will be putting them up.

The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 21th of May. I believe that this coincides with the short wing Piper club gathering, so it could be a nice bunch.

Past President Dave Petersen brought in (his newer) laptop that seemed to work very well in playing DVD’s. He was paid $200, which seems a fair price

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  President Bill is still working his way through the school of architecture to get a student to help with the design.

It was noted that past member Steve Kretsinger’s beautiful Piper J-2 graced the cover of the EAA Vintage Airplane magazine for April. The article inside was very good. Nice to see father Paul with one of our own. Get a copy if you can.

This airplane was worked on extensively by Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory. He is also hoping to restore the 1st airplane shot by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, an Interstate Cadet. Stay tuned to see if this important airplane comes to our area.

Rusty Bartel then offered up his list of available tools to loan. He had misplaced the file with the names and tools on it, but had just recently found it. This list will be posted on the web site when he sends it in.

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.

There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:14 PM .

April 6th Meeting Minutes

Meeting Notes for April 6th, 2011

The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, with  Melinda’s famous chili! Also salad and chips and some good cookies. Still the best bargain in the area for $3
Meeting called to order at 7:01 PM by Sec./Tres. Randy Stout since President Bill Dewey was on leave. The 13 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”.

Among the notices were: Ken Schmidt is already a Tech Counselor, he just needs to add Chapter 31 as his home base. Bill Robinet has purchased a 172 (sight unseen!) and intends to lease it back after some work is done. Bob Severns went to pick it up without much difficulty.

Gary Ludeke spoke about a tragedy averted when he noticed a loose bolt on the Horizontal Stab on a Rans S-6 in which he was instructing the owner.

Charlie Walker was asked to check on the progress of the sign (which says “Don’t drive on the grass”) that John Stahr from Chapter 1457 offered to make. He said he will do so. A nice article on John in the RG was brought up, as it mentioned him and his artistic skills.
The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 16th of April. Dave and Melinda (who now have both their names engraved on Volunteer of the Year plaque) will not be in town and so not be able to help, so please show up early and lend a spatula to the breakfast crew. All the food is ready to go.

Past President Dave Petersen brought in (his newer) laptop that seemed to work very well in playing DVD’s. He is asking the club to purchase it for $200, which seems a fair price. When the officers get back together, they will make the final decision on spending funds for this purchase!

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  We still hope to have the final site chosen and a rough idea as to what the city of Creswell wants in the way of bridges (or hopefully just a filled in culvert) by the next meeting. President Bill believes that the building permit fee might we waived on this project. He was supposed to meet a few weeks ago with his wife (Dee’s) garden club, who make take on the landscaping part of this project.

Dave Heisley had asked last month if it would be OK to put up an American Flag in the clubhouse at the request of the South Lane Fliers. All were in agreement that this is a fine idea. A brief discussion was held on how our club would like to pay its respects to the flag each month. No final decision was made on this subject.

About Time Aviation had asked for and received permission to use the clubhouse (for our normal honorific) on the 24th of March from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM for a weather seminar. They did so and sent in their funds after the event, so it looks like a great use of our facility.

Dave Petersen was asked to make up a YE calendar and he has chosen September 10th as our YE date this year. The Eugene club has chosen May 21st as a tentative date for their YE flights, which is in conjunction with the “Learn to Fly” events.

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.

Gary Ludeke then got up and gave a nice power point presentation about “the gauge that lies!!” your airspeed indicator. Among his observations and advice, he noted that the gauge does not measure speed, but pressure, which varies with the velocity, density and angle that the air hits it. He also noted that maneuvering speed is the speed at which one can make 1 full deflection of 1 control in 1 axis, one time in smooth air. This is far different than most in the group remembered, and was a good update on this mark on the gauge. He also noted that Red Line air speed was TAS, not indicated. Thanks Gary!
There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:11 PM .

The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 19th of March.

Past President Ben is still working on getting a new computer to dedicate to our projector project in order to watch TV and DVD’s without someone having to bring a laptop. Past President Dave Petersen said he has a laptop that might work, which he brought and, sad to say, would not cut the mustard. He has another one, which will be cheap but not free, and he will try it at the breakfast to see if it might work. Stay tuned!!

The passing of Past President George Oswald was then noted. His obituary is now posted on the web site. A wonderful guy and a big loss to everyone who knew him. Our sincere condolences to Vivian and his son for their loss.

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  We still hope to have the final site chosen and a rough idea as to what the city of Creswell wants in the way of bridges (or hopefully just a filled in culvert) by the next meeting. President Bill believes that the building permit fee might we waived on this project. He is meeting next week with his wife (Dee’s) garden club, who make take on the landscaping part of this project.

Dave Eason asked if anyone had an 8 day clock they wanted to sell.

Past member Jim Mahoney has completed his move to Florida. Sunny skies Jim!!

Dave Heisley asked if it would be OK to put up an American Flag in the clubhouse at the request of the South Lane Fliers. All were in agreement that this is a fine idea. He then spoke briefly about the “Nevada Triangle”, that area of lost planes due to tremendous wind shears.

About Time Aviation has asked for and received permission to use the clubhouse (for our normal honorific) on the 24th of March from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM for a weather seminar. All are welcome to attend.

Secretary Stout brought a list of paid members to the meeting and passed it around. Several corrections to addresses, phone numbers and email addresses were made, along with a few more paid dues. Thanks to everyone for their support and help.

Dave Petersen was asked to make up a YE calendar.Charlie Walker asked if it might include a North Bend joint event. Dave will review this request and have a report for next meeting.

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.
There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:17 PM .
