EAA 31 October Meeting Notice

We have a real treat this month. I just heard an excellent presentation (at our sister chapter 1457) by Mike Pungercar. It’s the story of life and death in the 91^st Bomb Group (H) in the 8^th Air Force in WWII. Mike recounts the experiences of his dad, Frank Pungercar Jr, flying missions from England over Germany. He wrote a book about it. Both the presentation and the book are F A S C I N A T I N G! You don’t want to miss this one! He has over 100 photos of stuff you haven’t seen (or known about). It is living History. Some of you may have met Mike when the EAA’s Aluminum Overcast was at EUG in June. He also heads up the veterans honor flights to Washington DC. Mike is an illustrious speaker. You will enjoy hearing him. It will be great!

Bridget Pratt will be caring for Virgil (hurt his back – keep him in your prayers) so My Ruthie Goodwife will have “Sloppy Joe’s” and her great “peanut slaw” to feed out tummies.

Sad News!

For those of you who knew Malcolm Steck, but may have not heard, he passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 11. Up until about a year ago, Malcolm had been very active at Creswell flying his Hummel Bird and Teeney Two airplanes. The obituary in The Register-Guard did not list a cause of death or provide any contact information. It stated that a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Meeting minutes from the 9/6/2017 meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, September 6th , 2017

The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM with our wonderful hosts Virgil and Bridget Pratt. We had Taco’s (both hard and soft shell), all the fixings including guacamole, beans, rice, Cookies and drinks for only $5? Thanks again to Bridget and Virgil Pratt for being our cooks and hosts. See you at the next dinner/meeting!!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 7:00 PM. President John Kuehl and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. It appears that our VP, Bill Johnson may have taken a job outside the area, and will not be able to ascend to the Presidents position this Fall. We all wish him well in the move and thank him for his service for the past 2 years.

The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was then called to order. There were 13 members and guests in attendance.

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, September 16th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Thanks in advance for all the guys who show up and cook the meal!

Gary Ludeke gave an RV-3 update. It looks like the date for delivery to the OAHS museum has been moved to this spring. There is a hope that Kyle Bushman of the Ragwood Refactory may be persuaded to paint the airplane at his hangar. It will be all white with some decals and displayed in the rafters of the museum.

Treasurer Stout gave a Financial Report noting that the club now has a balance of $3380.36

Bill Dewey noted that the flying club (not affiliated with EAA Chapter 31) is now looking to major the C-150 engine of Rusty Bartel’s before proceeding with the purchase. It has a broken cam lifter. John Kuehl noted that he may have an engine they should look at before proceeding.

The floor was then opened up for discussion about cleaning and fixing up the floor of the clubhouse. It was decided that the floor (approximately 1800 Sq.Ft.) needed to be cleaned and the cracks fixed before repainting it. Various other options were discussed (Tile, Natural etc.) but it seemed appropriate and most econmical to stick with paint.

The excess clutter in the clubhouse was the next topic. It was decided by a hand vote that several of the items would be disposed of, with several members agreeing to take them home or to the dump. Thanks to everyone who is helping make the clubhouse an even nicer place to meet.

The Fassetmobile (flying wing) of Barnaby Wainfan was mentioned and the possibility of it’s reconstruction created a stir of interest in the group.

The President then decided not to watch this months’ Chapter Video, but instead we watched several short video’s of the Oshkosh fly-in that just finished up along with the video of the A-26 Nose gear collapse.

There being no other business, President John then adjourned at 8:18 PM

Tonight at the Valley Rivet Inn here in Eugene is an Air Safety Institute seminar. 7 to 9 pm. The seminar this evening is “Fly by night ”

Young Eagles Pilot’s & Planes Needed This Sunday!

This weekend is the Albany Art and Air Festival. As a part of this festival, Infinite Air is hosting a Young Eagles event and is looking for pilots and planes to help out on Sunday, August 27 starting at 10:00. Tony Hann and others from the Albany area have been very gracious in helping us with our YE events and it would be really nice to reciprocate if your schedule permits. If you want to help, just show up at the Albany Airport Sunday morning. Make sure your Young Eagles status is up to date per EAA policy.

The British are coming! The British are coming!

Well – at least the British Car Club will be joining us for this Saturday’s pancake breakfast Sat Aug 19th.  In addition to talking airplanes and flying, we will get to see some pretty cool cars (excuse me, British a-u-t-o-m-o-b-i-l-e-s).  Hope to see some MG’s and Jag’s show up.  Expect about a dozen more folks than usual plus their their ground transportation devices.   9:00 AM till the food runs out or about 10:30 whichever comes first.  Coffee, OJ, Milk, Pancakes, Syrup, Butter, Bacon, Sausage, Eggs, and fun fellowship.  All for $5.00 bucks!  What a deal.  See you there.  Bring a friend.

August 2017 Meeting Reminder

The good news is  – it is not expected to freeze tomorrow Wednesday Aug 2nd.  Rumor has it it will be quite the opposite, but don’t let that deter you from attending.  Burgers & dogs etc.  Practical Chemistry plus Monthly Chapter Video (if EAA headquarters gets it posted by tomorrow).  We’ll add some cooling fans to assist air flow across all our lifting surfaces.   Tomorrow Aug 2nd 2017.  Dinner 6:00 PM.  Meeting 7:00 PM at EAA 31 clubhouse at the South end of Hobby Field.  77S Creswell OR.
