Sat Aug 18th 2018 EAA 31 Breakfast Notice

SATURDAY AUG 18th 9:00 AM BREAKFAST NOTICE
Lots of things to cover. Refrigerator inventory indicates we needed Bacon, OJ and Milk. Will bring that with me.
YOUNG EAGLES. We will go over improvements we can implement for our 4th of July YE flights at our next monthly meeting. In the mean time there are other things we can do. Got a call from Paul Metzer (hope I have that spelled correctly). Two of his 4 boys got YE flights on the 4th of July, the other two were in California. Was there any chance they could YE flights this Saturday? Don’t know -will check on it. Phoned Gar Burroughs, President of 1524 Albany (they fly YE every 4th Sat, weather permitting) and phoned EAA headquarters, OshKosh. Turns out that a regularly scheduled pancake breakfast is an EAA event AND Young Eagle flights can be part of same. I requested that EAA YE insurance be given for every 3rd Saturday for Chapter 31 Creswell. SO – we’re going to give this a try. We need to do more to get young people interested in Aviation. This Saturday we will have an additional 6 people (the whole family) join us for breakfast. 2 of them are seeking a YE flight. If we have any pilots with planes willing we can get that accomplished. Hopefully we can make this a regular event. IF: (1) weather permitting. (2) EAA pilot(s) willing and available. (3) Young folks wanting a YE flight. We won’t need to do advertising. The word will get around. Albany ranges 2 to 6 and they do it all day. The most they ever had was 17. We will get the word out – “Be there for the breakfast – to catch a flight” We will see how that goes.
OshKosh was absolutely GREAT! Don’t get me started – I’ll talk your ear off. See you at this Saturday’s breakfast. We will need cook/kitchen help. Some of our regulars are out of town.

GEARING UP FOR THE 4th OF JULY #7(last one)

We are off and running.  The canopies are already set up.  Almost all of the needed pilot information is gathered. We NEED more ground personnel.   People to guide Young Eagles to their pilot with log book, YE certificate, and Pilot registration.  All the pilot needs to do is sign these, pose for photos and pick up the next Young Eagle(s).  Everything should be printed out and carried to the plane by the ground guru directing YE to the aircraft.   Also need one or two volunteers to direct car parking  and somebody on the computer/printer.                           Remember to bring the following:

Wear your Young Eagle Tee Shirts.  If you do not already have same, pick one up from the storage closet and put $5 to $8 bucks in the kitty.

Bring unneeded Kit Planes and Sport Aviation magazines so we can add a label and give them away.

Bring any portable Nav/Com radios you are not using.  Flight operations (ground) will be 123.3

Big Bites (same vendor as last year) will be on hand for eats, treats and drinks.

Get some rest.  Bring a smile.  We will start setting up around 8:00 AM. (Gary just informed me the wind got to our canopy setup, so we have a do-over)  Flights in gear by around 11:00 AM

GEARING UP FOR THE 4th OF JULY #6

HooRay HooRah; EAA 31 got our water supply back at 3:30 PM today.  Final pressure adjustments and leak detection complete.   A definite relief.  Just in time for tomorrow’s (Tuesday July 3rd) preparations for Young Eagles on the 4th.

Tomorrow we need to do the following:

Set up the outside canopies

Clean the floor, tables, chairs etc.

Set up the computer station to print YE certificates and Pilot info for the consent forms.

Set up the temporary crowd control fencing.

Other stuff I haven’t yet thought of.  Please point out anything we’re missing.

We’ll start at 9:00 AM and work until we are done or until we reach all we can do before the 4th.  You could bring Kitplane and Sport Aviation copies for promotional give away.

See you there

GEARING UP FOR THE 4th OF JULY #5

If you have been in the Chapter hangar in the last couple of days, you may have noticed we don’t have any water. We had a major meltdown of the water supply system.  The well owner, Paul, has already purchased a new expansion tank.  I went with him this morning to a local electric shop in Goshen today to see about getting the pump motor repaired.  The plumber arrived later and we should have water again by late today and, of course, in time for the 4th of July.  Chapter 31 will be splitting this cost with Paul.  Glad it failed when it did and not on the 3rd or the 4th.  NOTE:  We will need more ground volunteers on the 4th.  More in formation on cleaning and setting up on July 3rd to follow.

GEARING UP FOR THE 4th OF JULY #4

RADIO’S!  If you have a portable Nav/Com you won’t be using on the 4th, we could use it.  It would improve our ground communications.

GEARING UP FOR THE 4th OF JULY #3

T – Shirts.  Ground crew.  If you have your white pocket T Young Eagles shirt from last year, be sure to wear it on the 4th.  If you don’t have one, we still have some in the storage locker at the EAA 31 hangar.  Grab one that fits (or almost fits) and put $5.00 in the kitty for same.   We are getting closer.

Pres John.

Breakfast and Roof Letters

This Saturday May 19th 2018 after breakfast we’re gonna “Paint the Town” (Actually we will lay out and paint “EAA 31″ in 11 foot high letters on the roof of the hangar.) The layout, diagrams, measurements etc are on paper. We just need to do them on the roof. Paint, rollers, etc all purchased. We will snap lines on the top of the 9” spaced ribs. Draw guide lines. Draw the letters and numbers (one at a time). Brush the interior edges, the roll the rest of the letters and numbers. This will be reviewed in detail before we get started.

We will need:
Agile (or at least very careful) bodies, Extension ladders (I will bring one extension and one Little Giant). Non slip footgear (no leather souls). All of this is weather dependent. If the weather is bad or if the roof is even damp, we will delay until another time. SO – after a delectable $8 dollar breakfast, we have work to do to put EAA 31 on the map. Call me if you have any questions or suggestions 541 729 1217. Pres John

Well – the floor is all painted.  The timer switches on the heaters are back in place.  What we have left to do is move stuff to there new locations.  Need at least 4 guys to re-install the stove, refrigerators, work bench, shelves etc.  A little more dusting and vaccing and tweaking and we should be good to go for our January 2018 meeting.

There will be no regular December meeting.  Christmas Party with 1457 at John Stahr’s Sat evening Dec 2nd instead.

We will have our regular 3rd Saturday Breakfast Dec 16th 9:00 AM
