July 2008 Minutes

July 2nd ,2008 Meeting
The meeting started with our great hamburger/hotdog/ (Alas no)Chili Bar-B-Q party at 6:00.

Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by President Dave Petersen with V.P. Ben Hallert and Sec./Tres. Randy Stout present. 22 members and guests were in attendance and introduced themselves. Among the guests were Tom Harmon and Larry Church (a guest of Dave Heisley)

Welcome to all!! BTW, Larry bought one of the Independence 7/8s scale Nieuport 10’s that they built a few years back. There are only 3 left at Independence now. He says it has the VW 1835CC engine, which has been problematic.

It was noted that the regular breakfast that Chapter 31 holds monthly will be held on the 12th of July. (Which is the 2nd Saturday, as they all are)

Nametags for all who don’t have one are now available. Please see Dave, Randy or Brent at the next meeting if you still haven’t received yours. Several people received their new nametags at the meeting.

Daniel Cathy reminded everyone about the Oregon Air Tour, sponsored by the Oregon Antique and Classic Aircraft Club which will start on July 19th by flying from Cottage Grove to Klamath Falls, then the 21st to Homedale ID and Nampa, the 22nd to Joseph, OR, the 23rd to Hermiston, the 24th to Hood River and the 25th to McMinnville. Contact John Husser at 503-910-7828 or 7238 for more info.

He also noted that the Oregon Aviation Historical Society will be having a big band dance on July 5th from 7:00PM to 11:00 PM. Sounds like fun for everyone. BTW, he is also now flying his Volmer!! (7 hrs so far!!) As far as new aircraft ready for flight or flying (yes we do much more than talk!!), John Kuehl has his Falconer F-11 ready to go (it is a Canadian copy of the French Jodell). Now he has to do
the same with his flying skills.

Guest Tom Harmon has for sale a 3 cylinder 2 stroke Polaris for $1200 and 2- counter rotating , ground adjustable 8 bolt 3 blade 75” prop for $400 ea. Call him at 951-751-1636

We have a combo lock on the gate to the EAA driveway. The combo is the intercom frequency without the .05. Got it??

Randy Stout gave a quick update on the replacement of his J-3 struts and forks.

September 6th, 2008 has been chosen for the next EAA Chapter 31 Creswell Air Fair. Keep this date on your calendars! Also, Chapter 1457 along with the LCC Aviation Academy is having their 3rd annual Norwest Fly-Fest on August 23rd at the Eugene Airport.

On August 8th at the Oregon Aviation Historical Society in CG, Phil Boyer and Ray Costello will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The entertainment for this meeting consisted of an interesting DVD of the Boeing 40 restoration and first flight. Quite an accomplishment with Oregon ties.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35PM

Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout
