The meeting started at 6:00 with Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Dave Petersen’s (actually Melissa’s) wonderful Chili. We even had cookies and homemade brownies!!
Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM by President Ben Hallert with V.P. Bill Dewey and Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 21members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”. Welcome to everyone!
The next breakfast will be held on Saturday, 17th of April. See you there!
Rod Johnson has the DVD from Van’s that shows the RV-7-9 empennage kit assembly. Give him a call if you want to borrow it.
Richard Jeffrey’s noted that he finally got one of him many Aeronca Champs in the air! And Bill Dewey finally has all his engine parts for his 172 and will be starting the re-build ASAP.
Ben Hallert mentioned that his car now has a backup video camera. No sure if he intends to install one in the Cherokee also.
A spirited discussion of Mole/Gopher/Vole removal techniques then ensued. The pesky critters are a real problem at both Jasper Ridge strip and Walker Field. The best methods appear to be CO using a small engine, Calcium Carbide to create Acetylene gas or shooting them in the early morning when they pop their head out.
The YE flying event will be held on September 11th this year. Mark your calendar for a much more pleasant event that the one that occurred in 2001.
The Short Wing Piper Club has thanked Dave Petersen and his wife for providing a very nice lunch for their fly in this last month. They also donated $25 for the use of the clubhouse.
The new video projector purchase was discussed. Ben will do some local (i.e. not via the internet) shopping for a projector that was recommended by an article that Walt brought in. Should be under $1000
You can post news to the web site by emailing Ben at ben@hallert.net and request password to post. See if you can find an interesting picture or write up a fun event that everyone might enjoy. Ben also spoke at the Kiwanis Club meeting about our clubs involvement with YE’s and asked them to contemplate getting involved with us in this activity.
Doug Kindred noted that local pilot Jimmy Dutton was sent aloft yesterday on the Space Shuttle.
Secretary Stout again asked if the 1457 Group has made a list yet of people who would be interested in a workshop with Rainbow Aviation to acquire a LSA Repairman’s Certificate. Charlie and Bob will do so. Charlie also mentioned that 1457 would like to have an event with us in Creswell on 5/15 that includes a breakfast, lunch and a YE flying event. Several in the group had trepidation about the weather at this time of year, but everyone agreed that having the groups do and activity together was a great idea. Dave Petersen will send in the insurance info in case we can have a YE event at this date, and we will see what happens a few days before. Either way, it will be a fun lunch and breakfast.
Richard Jeffrey’s noted that it will be about 18 months before Creswell builds more hangars, but they are starting a list of people who would like them. They should be 40×40 boxes that rent for $200/ Mo.
The Memorial Area plans were next discussed. Rusty Bartel was not in attendance to give his report, but Bill Dewey has spoken to him. They looked at the Hilton Hotel memorial and like the style. They spoke with Shelly about a good place for this memorial, and a tentative location in the area between the driveways (with the flag) was identified.
There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout
Secretary/ Treasurer
