Minutes from 9/5/2012 Meeting
The meeting started at 6:00 with Melinda Petersen’s famous chili and Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Salad and (again) a wonderful homemade Applesauce cake with fantastic topping! You missed another good one if you didn’t make the meeting!! Come next month and bring a friend!
Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM by Sec./Tres. Randy Stout. President Bill Dewey and his wife were on a trip around the country, but will be back for the October festivities.
The 15 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What
exciting thing happened this last month” talk. Welcome to all!!
Guests included: Peter Kolek, a free spirit without any email address and Pat Dodson, co-owner of Mid State Industrial- Sweeping. Pat was trying to find someone who is building and RV-12, and he came to the right place.
The next breakfast is on September 15th.
Dave Petersen then gave a YE report. It seems that we flew 46 kids and he and Melinda and the crew served about 100 breakfasts and 100 lunches at the Creswell Air Fair. He asked the treasurer to write a check to the City of Creswell for $500 as a donation of our proceeds from the Air Fair (done and given to Shelly- ed.)
Dave thanked all of his volunteers and noted that EAA has instituted the “Eagle Flight” program for those adults who would like to get involved with aviation. This program has specific pilot guidelines and a one page synopsis, which Dave has. The pilots who are involved with this are covered by insurance and it does not need to be a special event with pre-authorization to have this insurance. The pilots do need to be National EAA members, and local membership is not required, but expected. The person who is given the flight will receive a 6 month membership to EAA. See Dave for details.
Shelly Humble then gave a Creswell Air Fair report. She said it was a great success and the planning is starting for next years event. The wrap up meeting will be held next week. One of the areas of improvement discussed was how to keep more people here for the Saturday night dinner and auction. She said that the event will send the city $2400 cash (plus our $500) less a small seed money fund for next years’ event. She noted that this event has created a very positive atmosphere at the airport, which is a great side benefit from all the hard work. A fall event (pumpkin drop??) is in the planning stages.
Shelly also noted that Creswell has received a $160,000 grant from Connect Oregon for the AWOS A system (no wind info), which when installed will not cost the city any money. She asked everyone if they would return their volunteer shirts (cleaned please!) to hold down the costs for next years’ event.
Bill Dewey is still waiting for approval of the plans for the memorial
garden before he can get started.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm and everyone went over to Tom Cunninghams hangar in order to help him with a fuel problem with his airplane. Although this lasted until too dark to do much good, it was a fun change from sitting on our pants and listening to me drone on.
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout Secretary/ Treasurer
