Meeting Minutes from the 7/6/2016 meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, July 6th, 2016
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by Virgil and Bridget Pratt. There were Costco Hot Dogs, great hamburgers, brownies, chips and a drink for only $5. Don’t miss her next great meal!!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:50 PM. President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 17 members and 2 guests in attendance. The guests included Stan Bailey, a friend of Virgil and Bridget Pratt and Shawn Kelly, our newest member and Cottage Grove aviator and serial aircraft builder. He is now flying a Wheeler Express he built, and leading the efforts to get a “Welcome Center” with bathroom built down at the CG airport. Welcome to all!!

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, July 16th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Bridget did not mention whether or not she can be here so our volunteers for this breakfast are (hopefully) the same group as last time Tom, Bill, Rod and John, who will coordinate getting the breakfast ready to serve. Thanks in advance guys!

The old business was called for and the discussion began about our recent YE flight efforts. Everyone agreed that we need to put much more thought into the organization of all the volunteers and coordinators. Several people came up to me and expressed frustration that they did not know what job they were expected to do. All the officers and several of the members will make up a list of procedures that we expect to adopt before the next YE event. We will then distill the best ideas and come up with a master plan for the next time. Thanks to all the pilots and volunteers who flew 67 YE’s on the 4th. And thanks to John Kuehl, who contacted the food truck that provided very tasty BBQ offerings. The front page coverage in the Register Guard will be a plus for recruiting volunteers for the next event.

Frenchie noted the new summer hours at the Oregon Air and Space Museum at the Eugene Airport. They will be open Wednesday thru Sunday from 12-4:00PM

The new business consisted of discussion about the August Chapter meeting, set for 8/3/2016. Due to the fact that the President and Vice President would be out of town, the meeting has been cancelled. Of course, anyone who shows up can have a great hangar talk session with anyone else who comes by. Dogs are in the fridge if you decide to BBQ a few things to eat!!

Virgil and Bridget noted that they will not be here to host the Chapter BBQ before the September meeting. All the supplies are in the refrigerators, so hopefully some of the members will take it upon themselves to put on an apron and get the grill going.

There being no other business, President John ran the Chapter Video from EAA National.

After the video, President John introduced our speaker for the evening, Shelly Humble, our “Humble” airport manager. She spoke about the new AWOS (Airport Weather Observing System) that has just been commissioned at the Creswell airport. You can access the AWOS by phone at 541-895-2349 or on the radio at 119.275. She said that the temperature observation was every 2 minutes, but the weather observation was every 28 minutes. She also noted that she did not know why the skydivers were not operating during the 4th, but all agreed that it made the YE flights much easier.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:05 PM
Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
