Meeting Minutes from the 3/7/2012 Meeting

The meeting started at 6:00 with Melinda’s famous chili, BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and a drink for only $5 !! After a nice bull session:

Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM by President Bill Dewey with Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 22 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”. Guests included Larry Lowenkron, Rick Friburg, John Alexander and Bill McWorter (who spoke about a flywheel failure on his Sonex). Welcome to all!!

Gary Ludeke talked about his flights in a Euro Fox (aka Aerotech A220) and the short field characteristics of the airplane.

A request was made at the meeting by Roger Welch’s daughter to have Chapter 31 members donate charity flights for the upcoming Creswell School auction. A discussion then ensued as to what the new FAR’s say about these flights. At the end of the discussion, it was agreed that we need a confirmed opinion from the GADO, but that most local sightseeing flights would be OK to auction off. Roger will contact the GADO to confirm this. She also asked if anyone would be interested in donating some time to host a field trip to the airport, and several members said that they would be happy to. She will contact President Bill when she has a schedule for these trips.

Secretary Stout noted that yearly dues of $25 are due now. Please see him after the meeting or you can send them in by mail:  EAA Chapter 31, 86277 Panorama Rd., Springfield, OR  97478

Guest and Creswell Airport Commission member Larry Lowenkron then spoke about the Urban Moore skydiver issue that is before the city council. Shelly will be here at the next meeting to answer questions as permitted by the city in her capacity as airport manger. He also asked again if anyone would be interested in an airplane parts swap meet. Several people raised their hands, so he is going to do more planning and get back to us with details.

Guest Rick Friberg then asked if we would include a link on our web site for those members who would like to join his just formed “Creswell Airport Association” Check it out if you want to help. Dave Petersen said he would  add this link.

President Bill commented on the 2 projects we will be tackling this year (besides the memorial area) and they are 1) Pressure Wash the building and 2) replace the Chapter 31 sign on the building. He has not accomplished anything further on the memorial garden plans, but will continue to work on it.

Rusty Bartel has contacted his son (who helped last time on the sign) and they are still trying to get the old logo file so they can set up to build the new sign. Dave Petersen thinks he may have one, and will forward it to Rusty right away. Rusty also suggested that the group paint “EAA #31” on the roof of the clubhouse as identification for pilots who fly over.

The next breakfast is on St.Patricks day, March 17th.  Also the next YE event is set for September 8th.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout
Secretary/ Treasurer
