Minutes from April 2012 Meeting
The meeting started at 6:00 with Melinda Petersen’s famous chili, BBQ
hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and a drink for only $5 !! Come next
month and bring a friend!
Meeting called to order at 7:12 PM by President Bill Dewey with
Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 24 members and guests in
attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting
thing happened this last month”. Guests included Art Acquist, Tom
Preuss, Shelly Humble. Welcome to all!!
Gary Ludeke talked about his work that he is doing on Jerry Krause’s
Kolb Firestar.
A request was made at the meeting by Roger Welch’s daughter to have
Chapter 31 members donate charity flights for the upcoming Creswell
School auction. Due to complications with the FAR’s it was decided
that Gary Ludeke would generously give a flight to the auction, in
President Bill Dewey’s generously donated airplane, as he is a CFI and
can give instruction during that time.
Secretary Stout noted that yearly dues of $25 are due now. Please see
him after the meeting or you can send them in by mail: EAA Chapter
31, 86277 Panorama Rd., Springfield, OR 97478 Thanks to Bill
Skillern, Sid Voorhees and Ben Hallert for renewing at the meeting.
Guest Shelly Humble then spoke about the many things going on at the
Creswell Airport. They include, but aren’t limited to, asking for part
of the 50 Million connect Oregon grant for an AWOS (non- precision,
level 2 need) approach ($200,000) and using the Pavement Maintenance
Program (Gas Tax Proceeds) and AIP Match (level 3 need) for $183,000
work of work on the runway (slurry Seal 90%). She spoke about the 9
ea. 40×40 box hangars and the 13 conventional T hangars that are
planned for the west side of the north apron. ($500,000) There is
13.3 million available for projects throughout the state, and the
projects total 13.9 million. She didn’t talk about the ongoing dispute
with Urban Moore and the skydivers, as this is now under an
administrative action with the FAA that requires a formal response.
She did mention that new skydiving regs should be posted by the FAA by
the end of the year. Thanks for all the info you could give us!!
President Bill commented on the 2 projects we will be tackling this
year (besides the memorial area) and they are 1) Pressure Wash the
building and 2) replace the Chapter 31 sign on the building. He has
spoken to Shelly and she is waiting on a written plan to take to the
city for approval.
Rusty Bartel is still trying to build the new sign and now may have
the jpeg he needs. Rusty also suggested that the group paint “EAA #31”
on the roof of the clubhouse as identification for pilots who fly
over. Shelly asked that we run the plan through her first before any
work is done in order to comply with all sign codes.
The next breakfast is on April 21st. This is the same day, but it will
be lunchtime not breakfast, that the Oregon Historical Society will be
inducting Henry “Hank” Troh into the hall of fame. Their meeting will
be at the Village Green in Cottage Grove. See if you can attend both!!
Also the next YE event is set for September 8th.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Randall Stout
Secretary/ Treasurer
