Sec./Tres. Randy Stout on his left side.  The 14 members and guests in
attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting
thing happened this last month”. Among the guests were John Rowell,
Alan Vieder, a 25 year Air Force vet who is building an RV-9A and will
be bringing it up from California in the near future and Brent
Hennings and his wife, who just purchased a 1958 182.
The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 20th of
August. Make it if you can!.
President Bill gave a quick Memorial Area plans report. He had Roger
Welch speak about John Rowell (Architect), who will be asked to help
him develop the plan for the area and present it to the Creswell City
Council. They will report back next month.
Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory has been awarded the Silver Lindy
(Reserve Grand Champion) for his restoration of the Rearwin Speedster
6000C he flew to Oshkosh after a multi-year restoration.
Congratulations to him and his helper Jacona!
It was noted that the Jim Wright Memorial Stearman Fly-In will be held
again at Cottage Grove on Fri-Sat-Sun starting August 5th.
A reminder by Dave Petersen about the Sept. 10th YE event. That is the
Saturday after Labor Day, so put it on your calendar. Dave still needs
pilots and aircraft. Contact him at EAA31@MSN.com if you can help.
Bill Dewey donated a DVD on the Stewart system for covering airplanes.
That concluded the business portion of the meeting.

There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm and
the movie “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” resumed
from where it was stopped before the meeting started.

Minutes of the 7/6/2011 Meeting

Meeting Notes for July 6th, 2011

The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, sadly without Melinda’s famous chili! Also salad and chips and some good cookies. Still the best bargain in the area for $4

Since President Bill was gone, there was no Memorial Area plans report.

Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory has gotten the 1st airplane shot by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, an Interstate Cadet, which he will be restoring. As of this writing, he has flown the Rearwin Speedster off his strip after a multi-year restoration. He is on his way to Oshkosh!

Dave Petersen then gave a nice demonstration on pop-riveting for the Zenith Ch601 he is building. He set up a camera and fed the live demonstration to the big screen for everyone to see. Very nice! I was impressed that the rivets he used became dome headed when pulled with the specially modified gun that Dave brought. Thanks Dave!!

Minutes from 6/1/2011 Meeting

Meeting Notes for June 1st, 2011
The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot
dogs, sadly without Melinda’s famous chili! Also salad and chips and
some good cookies. Still the best bargain in the area for $4
Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by President Bill Dewey with
Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 15 members and guests in
attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting
thing happened this last month”. We had Brent Hennings as a guest at
the meeting.
Tom Cunningham sent around a picture of a train from Antelope Valley
that makes a complete circle during its run up a hill. He also
reported that the Antelope Valley airshow was a bit of a bust. The
winds never went below 30 and the temperature never went over 50.

Gary Ludeke reported that he is painting the rotating beacon tower at
the Oregon Aviation Historical Society at Cottage Grove. The last time
it was painted, it was lying down. Not so much this time!

The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 18th of June.

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  President Bill has
given up on working his way through the school of architecture to get
a student to help with the design. He and his lovely wife Dee have
gone to the library and gotten plans that they hope to modify and
submit to get the ball rolling. He will submit the plans to Shelly who
will submit them to the city and get approval from the building dept.
He has budgeted between $2000-4000 for the cost. Secretary Stout
suggested that OAHS Board member Doug Kindred ask them (OAHS) if they
would be interested in participating with us in order to use their 501
C-3 non-profit status to  help with donations. He will report back
next month.

Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory is also hoping to restore the 1st
airplane shot by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, an Interstate Cadet.
The owner is confirming identity at this time.

Rusty Bartel then offered up his list of available tools to loan and
passed it around for further inclusions.

Member John Kuehl has ¼ interest in a 1956 Cessna 172 for sale. It is
a straight tail with an 0-300 engine for $7,200. Contact him at
john.kuehl@peak.org

Walt Weischedel noted that past member Len Tarantola has had a double
by-pass surgery and is recovering well. It was also noted that past
member John Bigelow’s son has passed away.

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.

There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:18 PM .

May 13

Minutes from 5/4/2011 Meeting

Meeting Notes for May 4th, 2011

The meeting started at 6:00 with our normal BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, with Melinda’s famous chili! (Also salad and chips and some good cookies). Still the best bargain in the area for $3

Meeting called to order at 7:06 PM by President Bill Dewey with Sec./Tres. Randy Stout also present. The 15 members and guests in attendance then introduced themselves and gave a brief “What exciting thing happened this last month”. 2 of these folks signed up as new members. They were Brad Chapman (who had a Thorpe T-18 and lived up at Chehalem Airpart until moving to Drain) and John Wagner. Welcome to both of them!

Rusty Bartel brought in his friend Tanner Adams (back from soldering in Afghanistan) who is interested in flying and airplanes. He drove an M1A1 tank, so should be able to handle a plane. He also asked anyone who wants a good worker to contact him for work opportunities at tanneradams1988@yahoo.com

John Stahr from chapter 1457 was thanked in absence for delivering two of the signs (which says “Don’t drive on the grass”) Dave Heisley will be putting them up.

The next Chapter 31 breakfast will be held on Saturday, 21th of May. I believe that this coincides with the short wing Piper club gathering, so it could be a nice bunch.

Past President Dave Petersen brought in (his newer) laptop that seemed to work very well in playing DVD’s. He was paid $200, which seems a fair price

The Memorial Area plans are still progressing.  President Bill is still working his way through the school of architecture to get a student to help with the design.

It was noted that past member Steve Kretsinger’s beautiful Piper J-2 graced the cover of the EAA Vintage Airplane magazine for April. The article inside was very good. Nice to see father Paul with one of our own. Get a copy if you can.

This airplane was worked on extensively by Tim Talen at the Ragwood Refactory. He is also hoping to restore the 1st airplane shot by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, an Interstate Cadet. Stay tuned to see if this important airplane comes to our area.

Rusty Bartel then offered up his list of available tools to loan. He had misplaced the file with the names and tools on it, but had just recently found it. This list will be posted on the web site when he sends it in.

That concluded the business portion of the meeting.

There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:14 PM .
