Dynon EFIS-D10A STCs now available for Cessna 150, 152, 172, Piper PA-28 and PA-38 through EAA

ba15768b-77e1-4edb-a2bc-f2abe0300825EAA, in partnership with Dynon Avionics and the FAA, has been awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to install Dynon’s EFIS-D10A in certain standard category aircraft. This STC enables the inexpensive, but very capable, avionics that have served the experimental and light-sport worlds for decades to finally have a pathway into the type-certificated market. The Dynon system is a direct replacement for a vacuum-driven attitude indicator, and the STC currently applies to the Cessna 150, 152, and 172 series and the Piper PA-28 and PA-38 series. More aircraft are expected to be added soon.

bdfe3bc9-3013-4fa7-a580-3218a9199f29EAA worked extensively with the FAA and Dynon to show compliance with regulations and develop a new certification pathway for safety-enhancing equipment.  The unit delivers a wealth of information to the pilot and even has an integrated angle of attack feature (with the installation of an optional probe). EAA installed the D10A in its 1976 Cessna 172M and submitted to a series of flight tests with an FAA test pilot, which went flawlessly.

EAA intends to begin selling the STC as soon as possible, hopefully later this spring, at a nominal price point in line with its existing autofuel STC. In addition to the D10A, more products are actively being explored as EAA is willing to work with other manufacturers to bring down costs and reduce barriers to recreational flying.

No word on other models, but the forums are filling with requests for everything from Cub to Mooneys.

May 2016 Meeting Notice MARK YOUR CALENDARS

EAA 31 MARK YOUR CALENDERS
Next Meeting Wed May 4th

We are having very special guests.
“ROSIE THE RIVERTER” group will be sharing their stories.
All these great Gals are in their 90’s now, but during WWII they built airplanes and did all sorts of jobs. They were riveters, welders, drivers, defense department workers, farm workers, plane spotters — and every other job that needed doing while the men were away fighting. Maybe your Grandmother or Great-Grandmother was a Rosie! This would be a good meeting to bring your Wife or Girl Friend (but please not both).
Learn some History and find out what it was like on the home front during WWII. This should be very interesting.

At the South End of Creswell Airport at the EAA31 clubhouse. Invite some people that don’t usually attend our meetings.

Burgers, dogs, salad & drinks 6:00 PM $5.00
Meeting and “ROSIES” 7:00 PM $0.00

Meeting Minutes from the April 6th, 2016 Meeting

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, April 6th, 2016
The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by Virgil and Bridget Pratt. There were Costco Hot Dogs, great hamburgers, cookies, chips and a drink for only $5. Don’t miss her next great meal!!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:50 PM (John was ahead again!) President John Kuehl, VP Bill Johnson and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout were present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 26 members and guests in attendance. President John asked anyone in attendance who wanted an EAA calendar to come up to him after the meeting. He had one left.

Tom Cunningham rose to ask the group if we could please purchase some more griddles for the breakfast. He brought in a coupon from Bi-Mart for a nice griddle at a very good price. He then moved that the group purchase 3 of them, this motion being 2nded by Gary Ludeke and voted on. It passed unanimously.

President John Kuehl then discussed the painting of a compass rose down by the FBO. It appears that this cannot occur unless we enlist a Surveyor to mark out the radials accurately. He will be looking into getting this accomplished but at this time the project is shelved.

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, April 16th. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $5 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Our volunteers for this breakfast are (hopefully) the same group as last time Tom, Bill, Rod and John, who will coordinate getting the breakfast ready to serve. Thanks in advance guys!

President John then presented a nice slide show that documented the great work that many members of the club did to build, paint, stain and shelve our new supply cabinet. The work is top notch and really needed. I hope not to leave anyone out of the “Thanks” but thanks to Bill Dewey, Rod Johnson, John Kuehl and Walt Weischedel. It looks great!!

At the last meeting, Pres. John presented the group with a box full of stickers to be applied to your old Sport Aviation magazines and then distributed throughout the community. These stickers tell the reader to visit Chapter 31 at their next meeting, and speak about all the fun things that occur there. Secretary Stout noted that he “found” one of these magazines at Don’s Barbershop and Bill Dewey raised his hands as the guilty party. Good work guys!!

Walt Weischedel and Alan Weider have replaced the 2nd toilet with a twin to the 1st that was replaced last year. Thanks Walt and Alan!

Gary Ludeke then suggested that if we decide to have a YE event during the 4th of July Creswell Parade, we contact Don Amberg at the Chamber of Commerce and notify them of this decision. It is strongly suggested that everyone get online and check out the YE certification process so that you can participate in this or future YE events. They have made it much easier and less intrusive to fill out the forms.

There being no other business, the meeting was turned over to Curt Cowley from the FAA. He is the FAST Team manager from Hillsboro. He gave a brief history of his flying/fixing career in the military and civilian, with an emphasis on Helicopters. He went on to discussed accidents and their prevention, and then, to most everyone’s surprise, outlined the new FAA enforcement policy. He said that it is now their position that most non-egregious violations would be best handled with education and instruction rather than suspensions and penalties. That includes inadvertent TFR violations and other violations that were not intended. A very interesting guy and a great presentation. Thanks!!

President Kuehl then showed the EAA National Monthly Chapter Video Magazine. As always, this was informative and helpful.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:15 PM
Respectfully submitted,

Randall Stout, Secretary/ Treasurer
