Meeting Minutes from the 9/4/2019 meeting

The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM hosted by John and Ruth Kuehl. There was Lasagna, salad, brownies and ice cream for desert and a drink for only $8. Don’t miss their next great meal!! Thanks President John and Ruth for all the great help and cooking!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:54 PM by President John Kuehl with V.P. Gary Ludeke and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout also present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 20 members and guests in attendance.

Next Chapter breakfast is Saturday, September 21st. Come out to the clubhouse in the AM and pay $8 for an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, OJ, coffee and camaraderie!! Starts at 9:00 and runs to about 10:30 or so. Our volunteers for this breakfast are (hopefully) the same group as last time Tom, Bill, Rod and John, who will coordinate getting the breakfast ready to serve. Thanks in advance guys!

President John then read an article from EAA National about Drones and airspace. Suggested we all look it up on-line for more info.

V.P. Ludeke then rose to give a quick report about member Rusty Bartel and his RV-12 project. Gary will be finishing up the airplane for him and will fly it first. He needs to go through all the service bulletins and make the necessary changes too. Then Rusty will fly it with him. It is then expected that Rusty will sell the airplane, so if you are interested in a new RV-12, stay tuned.

With no further business, President John then introduced Les Wellington who, along with Gary Ludeke, have finished and are now flying his Wayex. The joke is that they have had 4 first flights, with small pitch issues (Ruddervator bolts were sloppy) and fuel flow problems (gascolator was unporting) needing attention in order to complete the flight. It is now flying well, and Gary is going to be putting it through its paces. Les talked about all the help he got from his wife Lynne on this airplane, and also on the RV-12 they built previously and sold. He liked the cost of the Wayex and its aerobatic properties more than the RV-12.

He paid for his entire kit from Sonex after the founder died, hoping that he would get all his parts quickly and before the company had any financial problems. He did get all his parts, but they were delivered anything but quickly. For example, his crankshaft for the engine was the last engine part to arrive- which made it hard to start assembling the engine! The worst part was the lack of communication from the factory as to when the parts might be delivered.
The meeting was then suspended while the group went out back of the clubhouse and looked closely at the airplane. Very good construction and a nice airplane. As it got darker, the group again met inside the clubhouse.

President John then began the showing of the newest Chapter Video this month, which had some great Nicopress techniques and and Oshkosh report.

There being no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:42 PM

EAA 31 Sept 2019 Meeting Announcement.

Newly completed Sonex Waiex-B will be on display. Les Wellington (my friend) and Gary Ludeke will make a VERY interesting and informative presentation on Les’s Waiex. Les is a member of EAA 1457 and has been in the building process since 2011. He started with an RV12 but ended up completing his Wayex-B including building his own Aero Vee engine.
This is happening on Wednesday September 4th 2019.

Words and meanings

Hyperbolic:  exaggerating or overstating the truth.

Hyperbaric: Greater than normal pressure especially of oxygen.

I used no Hyperbolic in explaining my Hyperbaric chamber.

I know you believe you think you understand what you thought was presented last month, but I’m not sure you realize that what was reported in the minutes is not exactly what I meant.

EAA Chapter 31 Meeting, August 7th, 2019

The dinner portion of the meeting started at 6:00 PM again hosted by Paul Messer. There were hot dogs and hamburgers, salad, cookies for desert and a drink for only $8. Don’t miss their next great meal!! Thanks Paul Messier and family for all the great help and cooking!

The meeting started with the pledge of allegiance at 6:55 PM by President John Kuehl with V.P. Gary Ludeke and Secretary/ Treasurer Randy Stout also present. The business and entertainment portion of the meeting was called then to order. There were 16 members in attendance with no guests.

It was noted that the Oshkosh fly-in has now been done, and there was an 8% increase in airplanes on the field, with approximately 642,000 in attendance.

Wayne? then rose to speak about the new Young Eagle build program that EAA national is promoting. For $500 the chapter gets approximately $1500 worth of materials and tools in order to build an RC airplane, including a flight simulator for learning to fly the RC model in the kit. We will discuss this proposal and try to find a “spark plug” (Wayne?) to get it going.

With no further business, President John then presented his trials and tribulations as he invented? (made? engineered?) his own personal Hyperbolic chamber (no hyperbole!!) As you might well think, this was a massive multi year project that required him to learn how to weld airtight and overcome failures of design with innovation and hard work. He has invested over $13,000 in the project so far, along with 3+ years of time. It now seems to work very well and will hold 8-10PSI with a nice oxygen generator providing O2 to a face mask. He has taken over 40 “dives” in it so far and believes strongly in the benefits that he and others will receive when they use it. He does not plan to charge for the experience, unlike the commercial operations at VRC and Riverbend Hospital. Our own Paul Messer will be taking dives in a week or so. Great Oregon Home Built Festival

I’d like to call your attention to the upcoming Great Oregon Home Built Festival to be held at the Cottage Grove Airport (61S) on August 31. Even if you don’t fly a home built aircraft, this event is a lot of fun and a chance to learn about Oregon’s aviation history that essentially started the experimental aircraft movement that thrives today. I hope you can make it! 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

EAA 31 Wednesday August 8th Monthly Meeting

We will have a report on 2019 Airventure in OshKosh. (record event)
Yours truly will present photos of my now completed, Hyperbaric Chamber Construction. Many airplane building methods and techniques were used in building this monster.
The Chapter video Magazine at this point hasn’t been posted. When available and time permitting we will see that also.

EAA Multi-chapter Fly-in and BBQ

The Eugene and Albany EAA chapters are hosting a Fly-in and BBQ at the Albany Airport (S12) on Saturday, August 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The BBQ will run from 11:30 to 1:30. All are invited. I hope to see some of you there!
